¡°When William Charles Wentworth proposed the idea of Australia¡¯s first university in 1850, he imagined ¡°the opportunity for the child of every class to become great and useful in the destinies of this country¡±. The University of Sydney has stayed true to that original value and purpose by promoting inclusion and diversity for the past 160 years. As Australia¡¯ first University, our founding principle was that we would be a modern and progressive institution. It¡¯s an ideal we still hold dear today and has led us to rank in the top 100 Universities globally. The University of Sydney has been a world leader in research and education for more than 160 year, offering the widest range of academic programs of any universe. Sydney University Boat Club (SUBC) is one of the University¡¯s 40 sporting clubs and is a leading rowing club in Australia. The club is the recent product of an amalgamation of Sydney University Boat Club (est. 1860) and Sydney University Women¡¯s Rowing Club (est. late 1960¡¯s). The community now proudly resides on the Lane Cove River, following the 2017 completion of the state-of-the-art ¡®Thyne-Reid¡¯ Boat shed. A varsity and recreational club during most of its history, the Boat Club has since the 1990s had an increased focus on its high performance and elite rowing programs, being well represented in Australian Olympic rowing crews between Athens 2004 and Rio 2016.¡±
