전 세계 명문대학교 학생들이 한자리에 모이는 융·복합 페스티벌『2018 DGIST 세계명문대학 조정축제』의 개최를 진심으로 축하드립니다.

조정은 스타플레이어가 없는 경기입니다. 혼자만 잘해서는 좋은 결과를 얻지 못합니다. 등 뒤 결승점을 향해 선장인 콕스의 구령과 앞뒤 동료의 숨소리를 듣고 리듬에 맞춰 몸을 움직이며 나아가야 합니다. 이런 믿음과 신뢰의 스포츠인 조정을 통해, 전 세계 학생들이 문화와 학문, 국제교류로 21세기 글로벌 리더로 성장하고 깊은 우정을 나누는 모습을 보게 되어 무척 기쁩니다.

이번 대회에 참가한 영국 케임브리지대학교, 스위스 취리히연방공과대학교, 중국 홍콩과학기술대학교, 호주 시드니대학교, 미국 MIT, 한국 DGIST 등 6개국을 대표하는 명문대 학생 여러분, 환영합니다. 그동안 갈고닦은 기량으로 멋진 경기를 펼쳐주시길 바랍니다. 승패를 떠나 대학생의 열정과 도전, 패기로 가득 찬 축제로 만들어 주십시오.

올해로 네 번째를 맞이하는『2018 DGIST 세계명문대학 조정축제』의 성공적인 운영을 위해 노고를 아끼지 않으신 손상혁 DGIST 총장님을 비롯한 관계자 여러분께 깊은 감사와 경의를 표합니다.

I sincerely congratulate you on the grand opening of『DGIST World-class University Rowing Festival 2018』which brings students together from leading universities around the world in such a convergent event.

Rowing is a sport without star players, which means good results can only be achieved when all the members work together to do their best. Rowers have to listen carefully to their coxswain’s order and fellow players’breathing to make the boat move forward across the finish line. It is important to coordinate the power and rhythm of the rowers. I am very pleased to see university students from around the world gathering here to become future global leaders. Here, we have the opportunity to exchange learning and culture, and build long-lasting friendships through rowing, a sport of faith and trust.

Students of rowing clubs from Cambridge University-UK, ETH Zürich-Switzerland, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology-China, Sydney University-Australia, MIT-USA and DGISTRepublic of Korea, I warmly welcome you! I hope all athletes can show their best abilities and talents during competition. Win or lose, please make this festival full of youthful passion and challenging spirit.
