The University of Cambridge has a rich history of rowing dating back to 1829, when Cambridge challenged Oxford for the first time in an eight-oar boat. Darwin College Boat Club (DCBC) was founded in 1969 by the current president of the club Dr Chester White, four years after the formation of Darwin College. Indeed Dr White still attends the bi-annual formal DCBC dinners as a guest of honour. Since its inception, DCBC has become one of the most successful graduate boat clubs in Cambridge, representing Darwin College through both events on the river Cam, and the prestigious Head of the River Race on the Thames in London. The rowing season in Cambridge peaks at the end of each academic year with an event called ¡®May Bumps¡¯. This is a unique race in which College Boats race behind each other in order to ¡®bump¡¯ the boat in front of them. If crews do well they can win ¡®blades¡¯, whereas a poor performance is punished with ¡®spoons¡¯. DCBC currently encompasses approximately 50 active rowers, coxes and coaches. This means the club is a very social and vibrant community with frequent training camps, BBQs and formal dinner swaps with other boat clubs. DCBC is honored to be given the opportunity to represent Cambridge rowing in the DGIST World-Class University Rowing Festival for the third time. Korea we are coming!
